Checking the Source Katie Byars

The first thing I wanted to mention about the readings is the dangers of relying on what other people teach about the Bible instead of comparing other`s word to the Bible. It says that Zwingli dropped the assigned church lessons and began preaching through the gospel of Mathew. It is always good to take a break from planned lessons that others have written to solely focus on the Bible every once in a while, no matter how consistent with the Bible the lessons might be. The town then realized that at least some teachings were not consistent with what the Bible says and began to follow the Bible. Teachers are not where you should be getting all of your knowledge from. They are here to show you more depth and different perspectives but you always need to check them against what the Bible says. It's like the difference between eye witness testimony and hearsay or primary and secondary sources. The Bible even warns about false teachers and tells us that in the later days they will come in greater numbers. The potential to lead many astray is great within every teacher and that is why the Bible says that the punishment will be greater for those teachers who have lead others astray.

  1. I love your post! A friend of mine and I were talking about this exact thing a couple days ago! 2 Timothy 4:3-4 talks about how some people will go to church just to hear what they want to hear and some people will be willing to preach what people want to hear instead of the true Word of God. It is so important that we stay in the Word so that we can know the truth from the lies.
