I know Dante was just using both real and fictional people as examples so that he could further highlight the punishment and make the story seem more real to the reader. He carefully chooses people that everyone knows and would be able to guess what sin they committed. Even though I know this every time I come across someone I am reminded in the back of my mind that Dante has no right to judge the people. No matter what they did in their lifetime they still could have come to God and have been forgiven from their sins and the world would never know. Perhaps though it is me curious about how Dante is going to show the other side of the coin Heaven. I wonder how he is going to show sinners who repented and saints in Heaven. I am still enjoying the book and the vivid descriptions Dante has in it. I do not think my imagination can even come close to imagine how it would have been if this story was real. It would be a terrifying horror trip for sure. I am not that confident of my bravery to say that I would be able to hold it together to be able to talk to as many people Dante manages to.

I completely agree, first off, with the thoughts of if I had to make that trip. It is scary just reading of the things Dante is witnessing, much less if I was witnessing it myself. I also think that Dante's vivid description of people's sin and their punishments are a grim reality we have to face that whoever does not accept Christ will spend eternity in hell. That is just the sad reality we must face. By no means should we judge, but we should take this and let it spur us on to share Christ in order to help people not fall into this terrible place.
