Jealous God

“When, therefore, Almighty God shall bring you to the most reverend Bishop Augustine, our brother, tell him what I have, upon mature deliberation on the affair of the English, determined upon, viz., that the temples of the idols in that nation ought not to be destroyed; but let the idols that are in them be destroyed.”

In the The Ecclesiastical History, we get to see a very interesting way of carrying out worship and reverence to God. You know what God really likes? He likes when people justify repurposing temples to falls gods to praise Him! I’m sure He loves getting the leftovers of a failed attempt to pursue a deity! This whole article sounds like a guilty man, pressed for time, and trying to find a way to appease everybody at the expense of the most important figure in the picture… GOD.

Our God is a jealous God, and He is not one who wants the scraps of our past. He does not want a convenient, half hearted worship. True worship is achieved through sacrifice. Whether that be a sacrifice of time, energy, etc. Worshiping God while he’s relevant, prepared to place a new god is his seat when He’s not working for you anymore, is not something I believe would be pleasing to Him at all. God deserves our best, not just our leftovers.
