"Hello Mrs. Lady!" (It's a quote from Stepbrothers) - Cade Wood

Lady Philosophy really interested me, especially in the first book, so I'm going to focus more on that. At first, I had no idea what was going on (I actually still don't fully understand, but it's okay). I probably reread the first book two or three times to try and grasp it. At first I thought Lady Philosophy was just a figment of Boethius's imagination. Then, when I re-read it, I thought that she was some godlike figure or celestial being or something. Now, i just don't really know and my head kind of hurts thinking about it. Anyhoo, I thought it was rather interesting when she said in Book, page 12, "..and they ripped this garment of mine, which I had woven myself. As they went away with some little shreds torn from it, they thought that I had yielded myself completely to them."
I believe she was referring to people who had " false philosophized", or what she might call such, throughout the ages. Basically I thought she was just warning Boethius not to follow in their footsteps as he grew in his knowledge of philosophy. I assume she thought that they had ruined the name of philosophy for some because they had done it all wrong. All-in-all, regardless of my confusion over her character, I'm very interested to see what part she plays through this book.

I commented on Breanna's and Madison's posts.

  1. She was definitely mysterious, but don't all books need a character that leaves everyone guessing and wondering? I already like her a lot, and like you, am excited to see what else she has in store! Great blog, Cade!

  2. I too thought that she was someone in Boethius's head at the end of book one and beginning of book two. Honestly I still don't know if she's a real person or not. At this point, I am leaning towards not real. Although she is said to have this ripped dress that she made, I still feel as if she is like the Fortune lady. I believe Fortune isn't a real person, which leads me to believe that the Lady of Philosophy is the same. I could be wrong though. I guess we will find out the more we read.
