What would you do?

Eusebius, The Martyrs of Palestine gives accounts of Christians being persecuted for their faith. Some would end up denying Christ and others stayed strong. While reading this, it got me to thinking about myself. What would I do if I were in that situation? What would you do in that situation? Now the obvious Christian answer would be to stand by your faith, and I'm sure that is what many of us would want to do as Christians. But would we really stand by it even if we were tortured until we were on the brink of death? Would we be like the man in chapter two, Romans,  who stood by his? Or would we be the complete opposite? I have often thought about the way I would react when it gets brought up in different classes, but I guess we will never really know how we would respond until we are put into that position.

Hopefully, we would all be like Romans and stand by our faith if we were ever to be put into that situation.

P.S. I commented on Eliza's and Philip's post.

  1. I agree. As difficult and unbearable as it may be to sit there and allow these horrible people to torture you for believeing in the one true God, I know that God will want us to sit there and take it. In the end we will be with Him, and those who persecuted us will simply feel the ultimate remorse guilt and shame for what they did to us. It'd be even better if we were just like that guy and we went through all of the torture with an enthusiastic smile.

  2. It's almost hard to imagine being in that situation because you have to factor in the amount of adrenaline and sheer will to live that would affect the outcome. At what point of your christian walk do you just know that you would die for your faith, for your beliefs? But, those are just thoughts and ponderings. Great post, Syd!

  3. AGREED! It is hard to imagine being in that situation, but people are still being persecuted for their faith even today in certain countries. Really it is a hard thought to comprehend because if you say you don't know then you feel like you've done wrong towards God. Of course anyone would say yes who claims to be a Christian, but you could never really know until you have been put in that situation.
