Rebirth River–Hannah Schofield

So, the reading this week was by far my favorite part of The Aeneid! Anything dealing with the Underworld always catches my attention because it allows my imagination to run rampant; therefore, when Aeneas caught sight of the crowded souls waiting at the bank of River Lethe in search of rebirth into the living world my mind went haywire. See, these souls were drinking from the Lethe in order to wipe their old lives clean from their memories. Aeneus, confused, basically asks his father why they'd want to live again by saying,
"The poor souls, How can they crave our daylight so? (line 969)"
What got to me was how Anchises explained the Spirit that lives within everything including living things. When the spirit becomes a part of a body, the spirit is tainted and distorted by human impulse and human nature. The souls that choose to be reborn aren't allowed to just drink from the Lethe and easily return to life via a new body. Some, not all, have to spend eons working towards being completely purified and equipped with clear vision.
What I'm getting at:
Doesn't this remind you of living a Christian life? Being completely reborn and working hard towards a new and better life? Being filled with a Spirit that can easily be tainted and distorted as we carry out daily, struggle-filled life?
