Prophecies Katie Byars

Prophecies in stories are used a lot to mark important people or events. They are
used to foreshadow what is to come. When done right the best prophecies have the
reader turning the words over and over in their head trying to piece together what it
means for the character. My favorite prophecies are a puzzle and have several
different ways it could be interpreted before what it means is revealed. The
prophecies have been taken several ways in this book. Aeneas` father
misinterpreted the first prophecy wrongly and that cost them. This lead to the group
looking closely at every prophecy given to them so that they would interpret them
right. The prophecy that is given to them to so that they would be able to tell when
they found their homeland could be interpreted in a way that would lead one to
believe that they would limp onto shore starving for food and eat tables out of
starvation. Yet they had a feast before the gods made them hungry enough to eat
their bread tables. When they realized that this was the extent of the hunger and
that they were finally at their home they must have been so relieved.
