Livy and the nature of Rome

In the story of Livy, the plebeians have a weird way to run for election and that by gaining a right in their amount of wealth. When they win this election they end of voting for patricians? Why though? Plebeians are of lesser human value /social class than patricians and all they wanted was equal rights in this society. Plebeians were never given a true opportunity to show their self worth in this roman society. You can kinda relate that to a future prospective and how in the 1950's and the Civil Rights movement and the harsh acts of segregation that played a vital role in the American society. Colored people lived how we did, but in a way where they were in a lower "social class" than whites and didn't have any privilege to do as we could.
