Do Not Fear --Kayla Gill
"...Put an end to your labors. I will never leave you,
I will set you safe at your father's door.' --Book 2
This is going to be completely out of context but bear with me because I am not exactly sure what is going on. This reminds me of the comfort Jesus gives us through his word. (I know, I know; I am getting spiritual. I can't help it. I am a pastor's kid; it's in my blood.) This sounds like a something we would read in the bible. "Come to me all who are weary, and I will give you rest." (Matt 11:28) Be strong and courageous. " Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.” (Duet 31:6) As I laid in my hammock trying to force myself to understand this book, I noticed this passage. As an introvert, sometimes I need time to myself. I took this time today sitting in the sunshine and trying to relax. There have been many things that have been causing stress and fear in my life recently. This was just a nice reminder that no matter how bad things get, God will never leave or forsake us. Hopefully, this reminder applies in the fear of the hopeless comprehension of this book.
Basically, what I have managed to comprehend is this is a big mesh of several of the stories we have already read from a different perspective and less detailed. There was also that weird part about the trojan horse where they are arguing over if the horse is safe or not...
Also, It is a perspective of the Trojan war from an actual Trojan so it gives you a good insight on the feelings of someone fully involved.
PS: I commented on AnnaKate and Zane's posts
Zane is my favorite human too I suppose
I loved how you related this quote back to an encouraging reminder of God's love. I am personally really struggling to understand this book as well, so by finding little meanings inside I think the text as a whole might become easier to understand.
ReplyDeleteThat was honestly the first thing I thought of when I read that line! I definitely needed this reminder since I don't have a clue what I'm reading :) The very clear difference between our God and those who said that line is kind of depressing though. I hate seeing how they put their whole faith and trust into something that can never help them.
ReplyDeleteI've said this before, but it can always be repeated. This is exactly why we read these types of books. They may not be specifically Christian, but we can still find God's Truth in them. I think it is really amazing how God can work through ancient, pagan literature to bring us comfort here at college in the twenty-first century.
ReplyDeleteI posted on something very similar and I agree with you. As college students, we have a lot to fear and a lot to be stressed about. But if we really go in full-fledged wihout fear and worry and we simply push through it all and do our best, we will make it. And the best part about it is that God is there with us the whole way.
ReplyDeleteIt is honestly encouraging to me to read this. It's so cool to me that you made the connection to God with a book that doesn't even talk about Him at all. Honestly, I didn't really understand what was going on either, but what's new.
ReplyDeleteI love the reference to the book of Matthew. I praise you a lot for that verse only because there's a lot on my plate with school and distance and where my future is n=being played out in. I tend to worry a good bit and that helped me settle down a good bit.
ReplyDeleteI do feel there are many biblical contexts on the reading. In the 3rd book this woman has them take something as to remember her by it reminds me of when it Jesus says do this in remembrance of me. Also it talks about her hands and a token of love. This is like Jesus’ nail scared hands and him dying on the cross as a token of love for humanity.
