Stuck-up or Nahh??

What interested me most in this eulogy was how it was ordered. It caught my attention that they started by talking about how great Athens was, even though it was about the fallen. At first, I thought they were stuck up and thought they were a "holier than thou" type community, but I was completely wrong. Athens' people honestly thought their community was the best. They weren't stuck up, they just had "school pride" in a sense. Therefore, when giving a eulogy, mentioning how great their home was gave great honor to the people they were attempting to recognize. Also, I feel like leaving the recognition of the person and their family till the end gave a more memorable account of who they were. Athens believed it was an honor to be an Athenian, yet they did not want to keep it amongst themselves. This is what changed my mind on what I believed to be the stuck-up nature of Athens as a whole.

I commented on Spencer's and Gray's.

  1. I agree, the same thing happens even today in our society. Anyone who has big national pride is seen as a bigot, or as stuck up thinking they are better. This speech shows whybits important to have pride in you community. When tragedy strikes its that community that will be there for you.
