Some People Never Learn

Poor Orestes seems to be caught under the same curse that both his father and mother found themselves overtaken by in the past. The curse in which they believed that through death there would be victory, peace, fulfillment, or a combination of these feelings. Just as his mother killed Agamemnon and brought herself into the blood curse we spoke about in class, I guess Orestes has become a part of that cursed bloodline by association, somehow. Additionally, part of the blood cure must cause them to have an inability to learn from past mistakes, and also causes them to be quite reckless and stupid.
You’d think at this point, after seeing what happened between his father and mother, he’d just make a couple sacrifices to the gods and have his mother exiled or maybe have those fancy virgin powered winds blow her away to another land. But nooo… he had to go and tamper with fate. And what did he get out of it? He got a head full of guilt and a bunch of greek god ghosts bleeding out of there eyes and tormenting him. This family should go on a vacation and talk about their issues. They need to calm down and stop putting the cart(murder) before the horse(talking out problems).

That's super interesting. I never thought that their retaliation may be part of the curse as well. It's kind of like what Josh said, their are logical fallacies in throughout the story. Maybe the reason they reject logic and turn to rage is because of the curse put on them.
ReplyDeletei definatly agree that this family needs some counseling. they are messed up and like you said, thay dont seem to be learning from their actions. keeping you metephore going, i wonder if its because of the curse that they are acting like this or are they acting like this because they are cursed. maybe even like an excuse just to do what they want.
