An ancient Greek Soap Opera

I watched a fair amount of dramas and soap operas with my grandma to see this is going to be good. Already better than Gilgamesh.

A terrible sacrifice that angered the gods. This heavy importance on wanting to please the gods that shows up on every other epic. This among other atrocities have been committed. It seems the gods are out for blood. The gods have been mocked by Agamemnon walking on a sacred carpet meant only for them. A mortal has put himself in a gods position and will be struck down. Foreshadowing his hot and heavy so far, from bad feeling to bad feeling. Death is on its way for sure.

On another note. I find the commentary on the story by the chorus to be interesting. It helps the audience to better think about the action and it keeps the characters in conflict with not only them selves dealing with doubt but also the characters talking directly to the chorus.

  1. Hahaha! The mental image of you and your grandmother watching soaps is so very entertaining and sweet! Come to think about it, the chorus's input throughout the entirety of the excerpt sort of compares to that of the old "Soap Opera Digests"–"Next week on Agamemnon: someone is challenged, someone makes a decision that changes their life, oh, and someone dies! *dramatic gasp*" Your thought process is dead on!

  2. So I really don't understand the book but the soap opera thing totally fits it. I can at least sense there is a lot of stuff going on. Especially when Cly was being dramatic about being lonely, how rumors spread quickly, and that she went between the living and dead because if the rumors.
