Petty Stuff
Good evening Honors friends. Excuse my lateness, I've been busy here lately.
However, I would like to discuss some things about Hamlet.
Of course, this is going to be about the play within the play. Look at my title! What else would it be about?!
Okay, on to my point. Hamlet in my opinion is a genius for doing this, and he does it in such a royally "petty" way. Think about it: the man was so driven to prove his step-uncle-daddy-(secretly-father's-murderer)'s guilt that he wrote A WHOLE FLIPPIN PLAY about the whole thing playing out- and all to just make sure that his father's ghost is not a demon and this his..... you know- was acutally the murderer of his father. Hamlet at this point is a very petty guy, and what's very interesting to me is that he is 1.) grieving over the death of his father, 2.) kinda screwed up in the head that his UNCLE is now his ..dad? I don't wanna think about that and it's 2019. I mean come on. Lastly, 3.) I love that he uses humor and pettiness to the extreme to get his point across when it comes to figuring things out. For instance, during the play he throws shade at his mom BIG TIME when he calls a woman's love short. Or when he tells Ophelia to "Get the to a nunnery". And I didn't even include the part about him considering suicide in his famous soliliquiy.
All I'm saying is that I believe Hammy deserves to be petty. Things are going off-the-walls for him (me too honestly) and I support his pettiness wholeheartedly. Having previously read the book, I don't think I ever got just how petty he actually was. I appreciate it a lot more now than I did before.
Until next time friends. PEACE.

I agree, Hamlet deserves to be petty and throw a little shade because of the two major unfortunate events that have happened in his life recently. But is he taking the pettiness and the shade too far? That is that is the question. Like I understand that he wants to avenge his father, but this man came up with a whole elaborate scheme to only tear down his uncle, but also the people around him. He probably took it too far and involved too many people, in my opinion. Also, great blog post. I like the humor you add into your writing.
ReplyDeleteWhether you're truly going insane, or just pretending to be, no harm can really be done by throwing some tasteful pettiness in the mix. It keeps things even more interesting and adds some spice to the conversation, and helps develop a thicker sub plot.
