All you have to have is faith-Brenna Stringfellow

I think what amuses me the most was that I agreed with a lot of what Eck stated. I agreed with him because he wrote down more scripture than actually stating his perspective on the issues. I do have to give the guy credit though, he seemed to be out on his own with his ideas compared to the corrupt Catholic Church at that time. I felt bad for the guy because he is trying to seemingly do right by defending his faith which he feels has been attacked, when really the church is the problem. If I would have only read Eck’s perspective, without knowing the history of the Catholic Church, I really think I would be against Luther.

Point seven made by Eck is what I want to focus on. Eck states that all religions require good works, and even a good Catholic feels it is “wicked” to think you can just have faith and no works. The Lutheran faith is an exception to this, and I agree with Luther. A person can be saved, have faith, and never do a so called “good work”. When a person is a Christian, and has faith, usually good works follow anyways. Good works is something that grows our faith, and can help spread the gospel, but it is not required by God. Faith is what is needed to spend eternity in heaven, good works are important, but they do not help you when it comes to getting into heaven.
