Sorry, No cool title today--Kaye

Hey guys
Welcome back to my channel. Be sure to like and subscribe!!

Anyways, got my inside joke for-- those who will understand-- out of the way

So today I am going to do another cringy pastor's kid post for you...

So, in Cantos #2, I noticed an interesting line that stood out to me.
             "The only things that justly cause us fear
                 are those that have the power to do us harm;
               The others, not at all. "

So this line is spoken right after Dante and Virgil begin to enter the gates of hell. Dante mentions how he is afraid of what is to come. Virgil has warned him of the things he will hear and see and has told him to prepare himself. This statement seems to be made because it is known that nothing through the gates is able to harm them. This line spoke out to me in a more literal sense as well. Sometimes we fear over things that we give the power to hurt us.
Today, I had to give a speech. I have really bad social anxiety and do not like to be around a lot of people in general, but getting up and having to talk is even worse. All night I panicked about the presentation and felt like I wasn't prepared. The actuality of anything happening to me while I gave the speech was slim to none. But, I had created scenarios in my head. Virgil mentions here that we shouldn't have true fear unless something causes us real physical harm. It is okay to be afraid of literal, but far fetched, things such as being kidnapped or something (@zeldapeach), but most of the time, our biggest fears are created in our heads.

Now keep in mind, I will probably say all of this and still think I am going to pass out every time I go to give a speech. But... I mean... Virgil and Dante willingly went to hell, so, what do they know anyway?

  1. This was such a great way to relate this to an actual circumstance. First off, I know you killed your speech today so great job! This is something I feel like we all struggle with, taking something and building it up in our minds to something that really worries us. But we always need to remember the Bible tells us not to be anxious! Give your worries to God and He will carry you! - Anna Grace Gay

  2. I just want to start by saying that you are the most beautiful girl in the world. Anyways, I agree. We build up so many anxieties in our head about so many different things and it brings us to this point where most high school kids today have the mental health of 1950s insane asylum patients. This is both saddening and freaky, but peace can always be with us because God is always with us. Zane Duke

  3. In the famous words of Paul Mua'dib of "Dune": “I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.” I had to drop a SCIFI book quote in on this. We fear things but we have the power to conquer those fears as well. God gave humanity the ability to face adversity and it is up to us to use that ability to the fullest

  4. Yes! Im excited that you said what you said because i commented the same thing on someone else's blog post. Only the things that can harm us should give us fear, but sometimes we actually give the thing the power to harm us, which leads to fear. It is all just a ming thing sometimes. And girl I was right there with you with the speech example, but we got through it!
