Antronius needs to stop talking
This will by far be my longest blog post yet, seeing as how I feel very strongly about the subject. To start, Antronius is probably the best example I can think of to describe ignorant anti-feminist men. I am personally offended by him saying that Latin is not for women to know seeing as how I have it permanently on my body for the rest of my life but oh well. Magdalia's responses are nothing but civil to all of the rude and very misogynistic beliefs. The fact that Antronius, an abbott, thinks that learning and wisdom should be held at a lower accord than drinking, hunting, and having a good ol' time just goes to show how terrible most men are, wow. He even goes as far as to say that other languages are more acceptable and keep women chaste. The statement that women aren't supposed to be brainy and are only supposed to have a fun time honestly makes me mad. If a man were to say this to me today, you better believe he would not be a man for much longer.
I think this is such a good representation of how a lot of men still view feminism. Women have been taught for so long that they are to live up to a certain role and only do certain things and only get a certain degree of intellect. Antroius even says that he doesn't want his monks to be smarter than him and that is why he doesn't appreciate education. If women hadn't developed further in knowledge, we wouldn't have several of the things we have today. The circular saw, marine signal flares, disposable diapers, submarine telescopes, solar panel houses, and computers are just a few things that women invented to better out world as a whole. If they hadn't have gotten the education they needed or taken the initiative to learn, we might not be as advanced as we are today. So my question that I leave with you is, are you ignorant enough to agree with Antronius? because if you are, I would kindly ask for you to exit my blog post.

I was pretty heated reading this excerpt as well and I had to keep reminding myself that this was satire slamming the cleric. I enjoyed reading about some of the things that women invented for the betterment of society and I definitely did not know that it was women who had invented these things so thank you for including that in your post!

I think this is pretty funny. I don't agree with Atronius and what he said throughout this story thing; however, i think comparing most men to him is a little bit of a stretch. I do think some men are in the wrong for what they say about women, but I also think a door opens from both sides and some women say some pretty irrational stuff about guys as well. Not saying that you did necessarily, but just saying. Anyways, I liked the read, and definitely liked how you ended it!!
ReplyDeleteLike you, I absolutely do NOT agree with Antronius. Actually, I vented my frustration about his ignorance to my best friend and roomate for a solid 30 minutes about it. Honestly, there is no way I'd be able to keep my composure and grace if a man were to come at me like he did to Mag. Mad repsect for you strongly stranding by your opinion! Great Blog, G!
