"There's nothing in this world, that I like more than checks... __Cardi B---Kayla Gill
"Whoever loves money never has enough, whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with their income. This too is meaningless." Ecclesiastes 5:10
In book 3 of The Consolation of Philosophy, The Woman of Philosophy discusses with Boethius the idea of money, success, and happiness. On page 70, These two have a conversation about how a person feels with money.
"Did you suffer this insufficiency even though you had plenty of wealth?"
"Of course," I said
"And so riches can't make a man self-sufficient and lacking nothing, which was the very thing wealth seemed to offer...that money possesses nothing by its own nature which prevents it from being taken against the will of those who possess it."
The woman here is describing how money doesn't define happiness. There are still things that you long for even when you have the means to apply it. The Bible warns us about putting our happiness in temporary objects such as money.
Psalm 37:16 says "Better the little that the righteous have than the wealth of the many wicked.
It is important to guard our hearts against the evil that is wealth. A rich man does not enter the gates of heaven. This is because a man who puts his love for anything else over his love for God cannot be saved. We are to be careful about creating masters. The love of money is the root of evil.
Therefore, stay safe, spend all your money...jk jk please don't attack me with theology

This is such a great reminder in that worldly things, example being money, can't make us truly happy. Sure, they give us temporary happiness, but everlasting joy comes from Christ! God should be the number one love in our life and that will bring us joy that will never go away! -Anna Grace Gay
ReplyDeleteI actually sort of talked about this and how we need not value money or wealth or glory or anything of that nature. We sat right across from each other doing this, and somehow unknowingly talked about the same exact thing! (that's cute) Anyways, I firmly agree that we should lay up our treasures in heaven and in the One who resides in heaven, because eternity is a fare longer time than the time we have here on earth.

I'm glad you said the quote correctly, that the LOVE of money is the root of all evil and not the money itself. A lot of people seem to misquote that and it messes up their mindset a bit. But yes, money is not capable of satisfying us. No material thing can satisfy us. Nothing but the blood of Jesus can amply fill our hearts and make us whole.
