Shady Stuff - Phillip Vo
“Rule well yourself, who can teach other folk
And truth shall deliver you; have no dread.
Control yourself, who would control others’ deeds
And truth shall deliver you; have no dread.
Hold the high way, and let your spirit lead you
And truth shall deliver you; have no dread.
For heavenly reward, for yourself and also for others.
And truth shall deliver you; have no dread."
Here we see four different lines of wisdom before a repeated phrase: And truth shall deliver you; have no dread. What does this mean? Much easier said than acted out, such as in Boethius’s case as he had done right but yet was destined for death. The first two lines are related to self-control and teaching others about the truth of God, but the latter two are concerning your relationship with God and your piety. We must hold the high way and be guided by the spirit; we must pray for a heavenly reward, for not only ourselves but for those around us.
But is this how we are to interpret this?
Probably not lol.
I feel like this is some sort of justification for doing heinous things (I don’t know maybe a CRUSADE?) A lot of the readings this week gave me this weird “God is on your side you do you man” vibe and it is really unsettling. Too many men have used scripture in their endeavors to further their agendas, claiming that god is on their side when truthfully that is the opposite.
Commented on Joshua's and Moriah's

As he continues to the reaffirm the power in “truth”, it created the question in my mind. Does he see truth as God? Does he see it as a force sort of karma, that does right by those who do right; possibly it is the natural result of doing right and living well, as either God or nature does right by you in you doing what is “morally correct”. It’s an interesting though.
