not all heros.. // hannah schofield

howdy fellas,
hope you guys had an awesome weekend!
let's begin with the very beginning of Boethius's The Consolation of Philosophy, shall we?
First off, I have no idea if any of you have ever entered a phase in your life where sadness and betrayal wreak havoc on your mental, physical, and spiritual life, but it's hard to climb out of once you become comfortable with it. It is almost like a gloomy security blanket.
Boethius was going through a similar situation; he had lost all will to be productive only to end up throwing a pity party for himself. That is when Lady Philosophy swooped in to comfort him and get him back on his feet. With a name like Lady Philosophy, I can't help but imagine her as some kind of super fierce, super-hero dressed in a blue suit adorned with a floating cape. Yeah, kinda random, but whatever!
The thing is, once we, as humans, reach that point of defeat we all need our own version of a super-hero or a "Lady of Philosophy". We need someone or something to talk sense to us and push us towards becoming the best versions of ourselves. Now that super-hero could be yourself, someone you love dearly, a total stranger, and, in most cases, God. Maybe I am way off track but the more I read into Boethius's and the Lady's interaction, the more I realized how much we rely on others to help us, comfort us, and aid us with personal growth.
My question to you is have you ever had a "Lady of Philosophy" during a hard time in your life? Feel free to deliberate on that to yourself or share. Otherwise, that's the end of my thoughts this week!
Have a great week, guys!

  1. The funny thing is.... my friends and I just had a conversation about having someone there to push you and guide you to help you succeed. It is very important to have someone like that. Typically, I am the pusher when it comes to my friends. I try to stick with facts and help them reach there goal. I have a really hard time "stopping to smell the roses". Although, I, myslef, need someone there to push me as well. And I totally understand your imagination of Woman of philosphy. But I kind of imagine her as tall and blonde and like a model shape. And for some reason in a long red dress. Idk, its weird but thats what I see.

  2. Since I've been at this school, I have learned that you need someone there, even when you don't want someone there. I thought of the Lady of Philosophy as a figure to help Boethius when he's down, but I did not see it as deep as you at first. But now that I've read your post, I can totally see it. Also, I like the way you picture the Lady in your mind. Honestly I just saw her as a lady with a torn dress (it was a late night).
