Man Talks to Birds. You Won't Believe What Happens Next! Osten

We have heard crazy stories of people gaining strange abilities from God but this one takes the cake. due to his ability to talk to animals St. Francis is revered to be a great man of God and thus an amazing preacher. Talking to birds is one thing but befriending a killer wolf is another. God only works through someone to perform miracles when it will bring glory to his name. From what the reader can tell about the way Francis preaches he seems to be glorifying God in what is said. At first glance, these stories seem a little far fetched then again so does the story of the crucifixion. In any case, these are elegant stories that show how even the animals are Gods creation and should be treated kindly.

  1. I did find these stories very interesting and almost blogged on them myself. The fact that it happened multiple times with many witnesses is what gets me. If there was one story, I'd either dismiss it as a myth to boost St. Francis' popularity or a one-time miracle to display God's power. But it happened many times in many different situations (the one with the fish was my favorite). The message to treat all of God's creation with respect is definitely there, but I also think these extraordinary stories are a testament to how God can do amazing things through simple people. Francis was just a guy from Assisi, yet God grants him this ability in order to show His power. Maybe we won't all talk to animals, but all of us have the ability to do amazing things for the Lord.

  2. Each of us are given certain gifts by God -- some like St. Francis perhaps are given fantastical ones like talking to animals while others are given more 'mundane' (for a lack of a better term) gifts. The important thing to remember is that each gift is given for a reason and that we might not always understand our particular gifts. St. Francis could talk to animals, but that's no less special than the gifts God has given each of us.
