Moral of the Story -Nate Strum
As I've mentioned before, I like knowing from where history comes, and Bede's Ecclesiastical History of the English Nation is apparently a major source for early English history. Unfortunately, most of the book is very dry to the nonspecialist (I certainly found this to be the case with the mini biographies of Hilda and Caedmon), but chapter XII of book 2 did offer an interesting story in which Ethelfrid threatens to make war on Redwald if he doesn't turn over Edwin. At the advice of his divinely inspired wife, Redwald raised an army to fight Ethelfrid and won. I think the (a) moral of the story is this: don't go threatening somebody with a declaration of war when your own army isn't ready!
P.S. I commented on Owen's and Ezra's posts.

That is an interesting moral if you take it to the metaphorical level. I know it's easy to go in guns blazing, but it never hurts to stop and check yourself before you dive in headfirst. A few clarifying questions would be beneficial before you try to take on someone else's force.
