A Lot of Thoughts -Madison Flowers
In the very last paragraph of book ten,
Augustine talks about how he is overwhelmed and terrified of the pile of sins
and misery he has accumulated from over the years. He talks about how he
contemplated running away to live in solitude because of the overwhelming
weight of his sins. I do not know about you guys, but I can 100% relate to that
on every level. I always have to remind myself that that is the exact reason
Christ came. We cannot handle the weight of our own sin, Christ can
though.
God reminded
Augustine of that and comforted him through His word. It is kind of a refreshing
paragraph after everything that has happened before it, with Augustine thinking
about following the Lord then changing his mind, then thinking about it some
more, all while confessing all these things he has done and all these different
people he has been around. I liked how Augustine let us relax a little bit with
that paragraph and reassured us of Christ and his love for us before throwing
that whole "time, eternity, and God" thing at us. I am pretty sure I
lost a little bit of my brain in book 11 trying to comprehend all of
that.
But then can we talk about Monica real quick?
That woman was a boss. After everything she went through with her husband and
his awfulness, she kept her faith and focus on God in the hopes that one day, her
husband might come to know Christ. I really do not think I could have done
that. Monica’s love and faithfulness is definitely something to think about.
Sorry this post was kind of all over the place, I
had a lot of thoughts on this one.
I commented on Gray and Sophia's posts.
