Different Katie Byars

In Matthew 4-5 Jesus teaches us to go against our human nature. For it is not in our nature to think that the meek should have the earth or to turn the other cheek. It is not in our nature love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us. It is downright hard to think to do these things much less do them as second nature. Yet that is what Jesus tells us to do. And when we do manage to do it people notice that we are different. They see the Christians dying and wonder what makes it special that people are willing to die for. They wonder what gives us the strength to be so different at times when it is so hard to be. These verses just reminded me that our actions are also testimonies to others about Jesus.

  1. True Christians puzzle non-believers and we saw every authority figure in the readings floundering over who these people were and why they were so transfixed by one Divine Power instead of bowing down like everyone else to false idols and leaders. It is almost uncanny the differences in a person when they live for the purpose of spreading the Gospel. Great blog, Katie!

  2. True believers live in a reckless abandon of the world. Yes, we must live in it; but we are not of it. That sets us apart. The changing, redemptive power of the blood of Christ gives us the ability to live differently and be the example you speak of. I know of people who were scum of the earth. When they turned to Christ, they became the most amazing preachers, missionaries, etc. The world is searching for truth and they can definitely find it. Great post Katie.
