Can We Copy Strike Virgil?

So what book am I reading again? (I’m not referring to which of the 3 books assigned, but the book as in a literary work.) Virgil really likes to borrow details from other works of literature and history, mix ‘em up a little, and slap his name on it. I guess Virgil did a little research on Augustus and liked what he read. Also, Virgil must have been fond of the Iliad and the Odyssey, because he basically tried to rewrite it word for word. I get in trouble for misciting a quote in a rather informal paper, and Virgil steals from history and literature and everyone just let it happen.
There are so many names and places constantly being introduced. I’m trying to figure who is alive and who is dead, where we are at, and what is going on. So how did he get to the underworld? And why is he there? This epic seems a lot less focused on the mythology and the gods and seems more like an ancient J.K. Rowling book with some old beliefs and stories sprinkled in. New crazy stuff just seems to keep happening, and I’m looking for a moral but I’ll just wait on Spencer to say something that helps me understand Aeneas's whole situation.

I comment on Gray and Spencer’s posts. :)
