Brenna’s Post (4th book)

I really like some of the life lessons I’m getting out of reading the 4th book. Obviously he is Socrates and is a genius, so of course I would get something out of it. I really like how he talks about there being two evils which is wealth and poverty. The book goes along and states how if a city is divided in to there will be nothing but enemies, but by dealing with them as a whole and equally distributing wealth, then you will have friends and not enemies. Then it goes into education and nurture. It talks about how through education men become sensible, and through nurture, combining with education, it implants good constitutions. I think the thing that stuck out most to me was when Socrates states, “The direction in which education starts a man, will determine his future life.” I understand the basic concept of this, but I really feel this has so much more meaning into it, and I just haven’t figured it out yet. Just like with Pericles’ speech I really saw some of the United States in this. Especially when they said if amusement of youths become lawless then they won’t be well-conducted citizens. I feel like we can really relate to this today, but I mean we’re obviously a republic so of course it’s there (I would put relatable here instead of using ‘there’ but it’s not a word). As many life lessons I could have put into this blog post I only chose a few or else I would’ve already written my research paper!!! But I really like the book this time!

I commented on Sophia and Zane’s post.
