Blog post on Chapter 6-8 by Treyvor Hughes

My blog post will be based off pages 180-181 but more specifically focused on paragraph 11 of page 181. This part of chapter six talks through what is necessary for the philosopher to thrive in a certain area and what that entails. What stuck out to most was when he wrote "Consider we know it to be true of every growing thing, whether seedling or flesh, that when it is deprived of the food, climate, or location suitable to its growth, it will suffer the greater damage, the greater its inherent vigor." This is a reflection of my personal life and I believe to be most Christians. This idea that a personal devotion and prayer time is necessary for a successful relationship with the Lord. The importance of an environment that motivates someone and encourages someone to grow in any way they want to is crucial arguably as much as the passion behind accomplishing a goal.

This quote also reminded of something else I heard from a general manager of a team. The team manager said that it is not only his job to motivate the players but to ensure that they have a surrounding in where they can thrive. It is not only necessary for him to motivate and encourage because he will not always be there and if they depended on him then there will be a time where they lack all motivation and won't be able to continue towards their goals. His goal was to make sure that their environment would be able to motivate them and that they would have everything they need to kindle their fire and passion to the point where they can be self-sustaining in terms of discipline. Socrates recognized this and thus employed his "Socratic Method" to teach people who to develop the answers rather than just give people answers.
