Ripping On Thucydides

Cody Ercizer

Okay so does anyone else feel like this guy is more focused on pushing an agenda than recognizing the lives of the fallen soldiers? Yes, I see that he brings the subject back around and he discusses their importance and there sacrifice, but he also has a whole lot to say about how great Athens is. Thucydides, they probably know how these ceremonies work. I'm sure they know about what goes on regarding the coffins. Just say some nice things about the dead people.
I had a problem with the last paragraph of the reading. "My task is now finished. I have performed it to the best of my ability, and in word, at least, the requirement of the law are now satisfied." I feel like this takes away from every nice thing he's said. It makes his sentiment feel less genuine and more out of obligation. He could've said that statement in a more sensitive manner to help appease the grieving people. Finally, now that I'm done ripping on Thucydides, I will say I did enjoy this reading and I was very captured by his tone throughout the article.

I commented on Phillip and Dakota's posts :)
