I'm Sad Basically - Phillip Vo

As I read, I was struck by a passage on 109 that says,
"Zeus, great nameless all in all,
if that name will gain his four,
I will call him Zeus.
I have no words to do him justice,
weighing all in the balance,
all I have is Zeus, Zeus -
lift this weight, this torment from my spirit,
cast it once for all."

To think that someone can rely on a God so heavily and that they still have it wrong is truly saddening. So much faith and poured out devotion to Zeus, and yet he cannot answer and sacrifice for his worshipers. They rely on him to lift the weight and torment, and yet they will still be burdened by it, because they do not know the one true God. That stood out to me above all else in this week's reading, I even cried.

Also, 112 has a funny interaction when Clytaemnestra says, "Troy is ours. Is that clear enough?"

  1. I have never thought of it in that perspective! I'm shook. Okay, I think that relying so heavily on a god that doesn't benefit you is a lot easier than a god who can. I think it weeds out disappointment and opportunity for failure from said god. And I also agree that Clytaemnestra is a sassy lil thang.

  2. People today do the same thing. We worship money, celebrities, etc. We worship them knowing they will not fill the void. Even other faith systems that do not agree with ours offer temporal comfort because they have been fulfilled the way Christ does for us. As for Clytemnestra, that woman gave me the creeps from the get go. She says so much that tells you exactly why and how she will do things. Sad, the poor chorus has no clue.
