Honor Lasts Forever

What really stood out to me after reading the excerpt was how we still honor our dead today in a similar way that they did in the time of this writing. Today, we still consider our fallen soldiers the most heroic of heroes. They fought to protect our country, our citizens, and future generations. They deserve the highest of honors. The Athenians felt the same way about their fallen soldiers. Their soldiers died for the same cause as ours did: to protect their homes. Like in the U.S. today, the Athenians hold a large, honorable funeral for the fallen (some families today may opt for a smaller funeral). It amazes me how this idea of honor and honoring fallen soldiers has lasted for so many years. This idea of honor is what encourages men, then and now, to make the ultimate sacrifice for their country. And, the idea of honoring the fallen as heroes and great men is what gives families and friends of these heroes a sense of comfort, knowing that their child, parent, or friend did not die in vain.

I commented on Gray's and Will's posts! :)
