Fountain of Youth.
Mankind has always sought ways to prolong life in order to do more. What I always wondered is why death is so bad. If we live our lives as God intends then there is nothing to worry about.
Gilgamesh faced the death of his friend with the same self-preservative fervor that most humans do. After a tragedy, we either seek ways to gain more time. Or we go all out on binges to satisfy our desires before time runs out. I think Gilgamesh's search for immortality is a combination of both. One last adventure to satisfy his urges while seeking to extend time.
In the end, I think he truly learns a lesson on living for the moment and being a benevolent ruler. I can only hope everyone learns that lesson as well.
P.S. I will be commenting on Kayla and Sophia's posts.
