Brenna's Post

Unless they actually lay the bones out for the funeral and literally divide them up, this is just like a funeral today. It really amazes me how really after hundreds of years we still practice the same things. We look back on the things our ancestors have done and we learn and grow from it. In the speech he states how the Athens he celebrates is because of what his ancestors have done before him. I love the idea of acceptance and how class considerations do not decrease merit. How there is equal justice in private matters and how any man can serve the state. Everyone has the opportunity to pretty well be themselves and write their own story (unless you are a woman in Athens during this time). I do feel that Athens is a bit too proud and boastful about themselves, but at the same time I feel that is okay. I believe they should be proud of their homeland and what it stands for.

I'm just going to go ahead and state what almost everyone else has in their blog post. THIS. IS. AMERICA!!!! I think that's why I don't think critically of them for being proud of their country because I am proud of my country and where I come from. Like I previously stated though, it really amazes me how so many centuries have passed between then and now, yet we're still so similar. At the same time their ideas are what influenced our founders, so it really should not be a shock to me but it is.

I commented on Hannah and Katie's post.
